Just as in her two previous recitals at La Monnaie, the Dutch mezzo-soprano Christianne Stotijn is again performing a highly original programme of Lieder. She is drawing on a rarely performed repertoire of arias and songs with piano and obbligato double bass, an unexpected but quite extraordinary combination. The journey of course starts with arias originally written for these instruments by the 19th-century double bass virtuoso Giovanni Bottesini. They will be followed by songs by Mikhail Glinka in a new arrangement for this ensemble and Cabaret Songs by the American ‘composer of the year 2007’, William Bolcom. To finish there will be a brand new work by the Dutch composer Michel van der Aa and Ned Rorem’s most recent song cycle. Anyone who likes making musical discoveries should not miss this!
