Bo Skovhus is acclaimed in opera houses for his theatrical and vocal skills in the great baritone roles (Don Giovanni, Eugene Onegin, Billy Budd...) whilst also, in parallel, following a career as a melodist. He was moreover invited by La Monnaie in 1997 for an anthology of lieder bringing together Grieg, Haydn and Schubert. He returns to us with Schubert’s song cycle Swan song in recital form – after the staged version of the cycle by Romeo Castellucci at the beginning of the season. This posthumous collection of songs, considered to be the composer’s artistic last will and testament, brings together all the themes and feelings so dear to German romanticism through fourteen songs in turn light, elegiac, melancholic and wild but in each of them beats the Sehnsucht, the inconsolable longing of the human soul. There can be no doubt that Bo Skovhus will reveal to us the highs, the rushes and the doubts : ‘Desire ! Are you familiar with it ?’
