WEEP, WEEP, MY EYES after Le Cid by Corneille, Directed by Philippe Sireuil. Through January 24th, 2010 at the Main theatre
"Vengeance is always carried out due to weakness of the soul, which is not able to sustain injury", according to the maxims of François de La Rochefoucauld. If Don Diego, the father of Rodrigo, who forced his son to commit a crime of honour, was aware of these words, Corneille's play would never have been written, and today, following numerous illustrious predecessors, I would never have been able to appreciate its qualities...One could be fascinated by the "corrida", which remains, after all its mysterious customs and rituals, a butchery.
