The Cumberland Theatre will officially open their 37th
Season with the smash hit musical Jersey Boys on Friday, January 31 st . The show is
being sponsored by Mary Splain Shrout and will run for 10 performances.
A celebration gala is planned to follow the performance which includes complimentary
refreshments, a champagne toast, prizes and the announcement of the Cumberland
Theatre Patron of the Year award. There is no additional cost to attend the gala. It is
included in the ticket cost for that evening’s performance.
With familiar music, memorable characters, and great storytelling, Jersey Boys follows
the fascinating evolution of four blue-collar kids who became one of the greatest
successes in pop-music history. Winner of Best Musical at both the Tony Awards® and
Olivier Awards®, the musical takes you behind the music of Frankie Valli and The Four
Seasons to discover the secret of a 40-year friendship as the foursome work their way
from the streets of New Jersey to the heights of stardom. The show features
performances of chart-topping hits including “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Can’t Take
My Eyes Off You,” “Dawn,” and “My Eyes Adored You,” which brought The Four
Seasons the highest honor: induction into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame.
CT’s upcoming rendition features both local and visiting actors and marks the debut of
new guest director and choreographer Dennis Clark, who has been involved with
productions across the country. He is an adjunct in the Theater Department at Utica
University and a proud member of Actors Equity. He was the first full time Artistic
Director of the Ritz Theater in Sheffield, AL. Clark has also taught and directed shows
for the Walnut Hill School For the Arts and Stagedoor Manor. He also serves as the Vice
President of the Board of Directors for Fort Salem Theatre Co..
Playing the role of Frankie Valli and making his CT debut will be Nicky Kaider, who
recently played the role in a production at Toby’s Dinner Theatre. Other recent credits
include White Christmas (Phil Davis) at Clear Space Theatre Company, A Chorus Line
(Mike) at Toby’s Dinner Theatre and Happy Days (Chachi)) at Arizona Broadway
Theatre. Also making his Cumberland debut will be Nolen Petrosky as Tommy DeVito.
Hailing from Lancaster, PA, his recent stage appearances include the title role in The
Buddy Holly Story and Percy Jackson in The Lightning Thief.
Returning to the CT stage will be Jarrett Bloom as Bob Gaudio and Brian Records as
Nick Massi. Bloom recently appeared as Edgar in last fall’s Nevermore: The
Extraordinary Life and Mysterious Death of Edgar Allan Poe. Records appeared in last
season’s Footloose (Willard), The Rose Tattoo (Jack) and It’s a Wonderful Life (Sam
Wainwright).
Playing a large variety of ensemble roles will be Arianna Fiorentino, Denver Gaydon,
Molly Hofstaedter, Kyle Holcomb, Shane Michael Lynn, Mattan Potts, Emma Schilling
and Zachary Spafford.
Jaiden Courrier will serve as musical director and the show will feature a live band. The
design team for the show is comprised of Rhett Wolford (set and lighting design),
Jennifer Clark (costume design) and Kimberli Rowley (props coordinator). The run crew
consists of Anika Jones (stage manager) and Sawyer Jenkins (assistant stage
manager).
A preview performance will be held Thursday, January 30th at 8:00 pm. Following the
preview, performances are January 31 st – February 16th with Friday and Saturday
performances at 8:00 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm. The gala opening reception is
included in the ticket price for January 31 st .
A special VIP ticket option is available which includes front row cabaret table seating, a
martini flight and light snacks. This option is limited to only twelve seats per
performance. The VIP Star Box is also available to book by visiting the theatre’s
website.
