TUNEFUL, EXCITING, VIBRANT YET HEARTBREAKING the story of 3 young Marines who, on their last night before shipping out to southeast Asia, indulge in an evening and night of rowdy entertainment in San Francisco. But it is November 21, 1963, the last day of our national innocence, and the rowdiness includes holding a "Dogfight," a dance competition in which the Marine wins who brings the UGLIEST date. PFC Eddie Birdlace brings shy Rose Fenny to the dance, although he regrets it, and as the night continues, he learns from her a lesson in compassion and sensitivity that is all he has left when he returns, 4 years later, a wounded shell of his former self, and finds himself adrift in the "Summer of Love."
