Toby's Dinner and Show Baltimore - Xanadu runs June 18, 2011 through September 4,2011.

The surprise hit Broadway Musical based on the infamous Olivia Newton John film, Xanadu rocks its way into Toby's Dinner and Show for the summer.

The 1980 film on which the show is based was supposed to be a smash hit follow up to Miss Newton John's star turn in the movie musical "Grease". Unfortunately the film was vilified by critics and actually was the reason the Razzie Awards for the Worst Films of the year were created. It became a cult classic and is cherished by many cineasts for its sheer awfulness.

The story of a struggling artist who is visited by a Goddess from Mount Olympus to help inspire him and his artistic vision was also a film from the 1940's called "Down to Earth". The Broadway version of the tale takesloving potshots at the 1980 film version - while using all of the Top 40 radio hits that stayed on the airwaves for more than a year after the film faded
away.

The score was written by Pop music masters John Farrar, who was responsible for most of Miss Newton Johns smash hits, and Jeff Lynne leader of the legendary rock band Electric Light Orchestra. Songs such as "Magic", "AllOver the World" and the title tune "Xanadu" ruled the airwaves in the early 1980's and the Soundtrack Album eventually went Platinum - a rare feat
in those days.

The Broadway production won rave reviews and ran for 49 previews and 512 performances. The show was nominated for four Tony Awards including Best Musical, and won the Drama Desk Award for Best Book of a Musical for its author Douglas Carter Beane.

The Toby's production is being Directed by Daniel McDonald and Choreographed by Laurie Newton, Musical Direction is by Cedric Lyles, Set Design by David Hopkins and Lighting Design by Joey Wallen.

Heather Beck, Greg Toomey and David Bosley-Reynolds, head up the cast, which also features Maria Egler and Tierra Strickland.

Performances - Thursdays through Sundays. There are selected Tuesday and Wednesday evening and Thursday matinee performances at Toby's Baltimore. Doors open at 6:00 pm for evening shows (5:00 pm on Sundays) and 10:30 am for matinees.
