The Vagabond Players Announces 98th Season

The Vagabond Players, America's oldest continuous Little Theatre, announces its 98th season, described as an entertaining selection of classic to contemporary comedy and drama sure to absorb and delight audiences. Each takes an engaging look at human nature and humanity leaving the viewer with something to think and talk about. As always, every production in this historic 100 seat theatre promises the best in live theatre at very affordable prices.

September 6 - 29
The Misanthrope by Moliere, translated by Richard Wilbur, directed by Howard Berkowitz.
In this elegant, modern staging of Moliere's dynamic satire, targeting love, hypocrisy and the society in which they flourish, the characters are witty and foolish, hilarious and real. The Misanthrope is a timeless classic that appeals to both the intellect and the funny bone.

October 18 - November 24
Company, book by George Furth, music and lyrics by Stephen Sondhein, directed by Eric Potter.
This 1970 Tony award winning musical is one of the first to deal with adult themes and real human relationships. Sondheim's vibrant and electrifying score sets the tone for a production that is sleek, smart and sophisticated from start to finish.

January 10 - February 9
Harvey by Mary Chase, directed by Sherrionne Brown.
Not since Alice in Wonderland has a rabbit caused so much consternation! In Chase's Pulitzer Prize winning comedy, family and friendship prevail, resulting in a memorable and heartwarming story of a man and his very unusual best friend.

February 28 - March 31
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher, and directed by John W. Ford.
A smart, tense and suspenseful new take on Stevenson's look at the evil that lurks in the hearts of men--this is definitely not your grandfather's Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The dark and surprisingly sexy intensity of this melodrama is unrelenting--it would be a sin to miss it!

April 18 - May 18
The Foreigner by Larry Shue, directed by Steve Goldklang.
The devious shenanigans of a backwoods mob are interrupted by an innocent stranger who stumbles onto their plot to defraud a kindly old innkeeper. This inspired comic romp is full of outrageous fun and surprises, building to a hilarious climax. It received two Outer Circle Critics Awards as Best New American Play and Best Off-Broadway Production.

June 6 - July 6
The Exonerated by Jessica Bleak and Erik Jensen, directed by Josh Shoemaker.
"The #1 play of the year...intense and deeply affecting..." -NY Times. This award-winning docudrama intertwines the true stories of six death row inmates who are proven innocent before they are executed. More importantly, it poses the question: how many others have not been as fortunate? The Exonerated is a provocative and unforgettable theater-going experience.
