The Strand Theater is proud to present Graves in the Water, an original piece adapted from Edgar Lee Masters' Spoon River Anthology. The Spoon River Anthology is a classic piece, rarely performed, being re-envisioned by two local artists for the Baltimore stage. In keeping with the mission of the Strand Theater, this piece will be a generative ensemble piece that will focus on the stories of the women who lived in Edgar Lee Master's fictional rural town.
Graves in the Water was conceived by director Lynn Morton, and local theater favorite, Alex Hewett. Lynn Morton was recently awarded third Best Production from the Baltimore Playwrights Festival for her production of Leap Day by local playwright Lee Sapperstein . Lynn is a Strand Theater Company Member, as well as Board Member of the Baltimore Theater Alliance. By day she works with a non-profit association as a social media marketer and has recently been nominated for a Baltimore Sun Mobbie (Maryland's Outstanding Blogs) Award in the Business & Technology category for her writings about how non-profits can harness social media.Alex Hewett has been involved in all aspects of the Baltimore arts community. In 2008, she played the title role of Barbie, in the Baltimore Playwright's Festival production of Barbie, A Doll Her in which. She has performed at the Kennedy Center's Page to Stage Festival for the past three years. Other cast members in this generative cast include Robin Rouse, a local Baltimore Playwright and Baltimore Theater Alliance Member and Cristina Petrarca, an up and coming actor and UMBC graduate in history.
