The Strand Theater invites you to its first annual Friends and Neighbors Festival! Our inaugural festival includes a variety of performers, playwrights, and comedians. Every week, for seven weeks, a new artist will take the stage to showcase a new performance. Artistic Director, Jayme Kilburn is "very excited about this festival. Every new work we present is a new adventure."
This week:
One fool, two lovers, three kisses, foreplay, and five acts in thirty minutes!
Warren Holleman's Comity of Eros
Directed by Andrew Syropulous
A man and woman fall passionately and deeply but impossibly in love, as they discover insurmountable barriers to the consummation of their affection. But, as Eddy Arnold, the Lynch Mob, and countless others have reminded us, "Love finds a way." By speaking in Elizabethan English, invoking the spirit of Henry VIII, following the Fool's wise counsel, and utilizing the vast resources of their "moral imaginations," the couple manages to find a way out of prior commitments and into each others' arms. At first glance the plot may seem absolutely ridiculous, but the Fool - who has lived and breathed all 37 of Shakespeare's plays- knows better:
If this plot played on any other stage, You'd condemn as improbable fiction.
But nothing's more true than words said to you
In Elizabethan diction.
Comity of Eros runs for one weekend only. Don't miss it!
Friday, June 5th at 8pm
Saturday, 6th at 8pm
