In response to the mounting needs of individuals and numerous organizations impacted by the Saturday, July 31st flood in Old Ellicott City, MD, Toby's Dinner Theatre will join with Glenelg Country School's Performing Arts Chair, Carole Graham Lehan, to present The Main Thing: Cabaret Series. The first two events will harken back to a time-honored "post-show" tradition in which talented actors provide a NY-style Broadway experience in late-night entertainment for one hour after the main show concludes. On selected dates, the evening's theatre-goers will be able to join walk-up guests for a cash-only cover charge of $10 per person. Proceeds and bar sales will go to EC Partnership relief fund.
"Our theatre community rallies when it sees a need. Well, there's a need," said Toby, "and three of our own were directly hit by this disaster."
Ellicott City resident and business owner of four Antique Depot booths on Maryland Ave, Heather Beck and her husband, actor/director Shawn Kettering were impacted, as well as long-time Toby's performer David Reynolds, who also owns a now-flooded booth at Antique Depot. Beck stars in Toby's current production of Hairspray and heard about the flood during a performance.
"I couldn't believe the level of destruction being described to me by our neighbors. We could do nothing to help at that time, but now we can."
More cabarets will be scheduled in the fall including one at Glenelg Country School. Various shows will feature area performers, such as: Ross Rawlings, Kevin McAllister, Bobby Smith, Rob McQuay, Shannon Wollman, Larry Munsey, Ashley Johnson, Carole Graham Lehan, Felicia Curry, Christie Graham, David Reynolds, and Heather Beck.
Toby's Dinner Theatre offers award-winning Broadway and original musicals with a buffet-style dinner.
Glenelg Country School is a nonsectarian, PreK-12, co-educational independent day school.
