The Baltimore Playwrights Festival (www.baltplayfest.org) announces its monthly public meeting to be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17, at Fells Point Corner Theatre. After the meeting, at 8:30 p.m., there will be a staged reading of three ten-minute plays by Susan Middaugh, directed by Micah Chalmer. The readings of Just a Bus Driver, Wronged and Just Another Face in the Crowd will be followed by a discussion of the scripts with the playwright, director and actors. The event is free, and the general public is encouraged to attend.
Just a Bus Driver finds a city bus driver on the eve of his retirement who encounters a male passenger intent on committing a murder when he leaves the bus.
In Wronged a long time female employee of a district court has been accused and acquitted of embezzlement. How will she and her coworkers handle her first day back on the job?
And Just Another Face in the Crowd tells the story of a severely disfigured man who has an opportunity for a face transplant, but is resistant. Will his wife and young daughter help him change his mind?
Susan Middaugh has been writing plays since 1990. Theatrical Mining Company has produced two of her full-length plays, Black Widows and A Modern Pas De Deux as part of the Baltimore Playwrights Festival. One Act Play Depot in Canada has published
her short play, Such Good Neighbors, and Lazy Bee Scripts in England has published her short play, Table for Two. Community theaters in the U.S., England and Canada have produced many of her short plays. Susan is a member of the Playwrights Group of Baltimore and the Dramatists’ Guild. The Baltimore Playwrights Festival has presented 273 scripts by 165 playwrights, produced by 25 different companies, over the past 30 Years. Our mission is to provide an environment that nurtures the talents of Maryland and DC playwrights through public readings, discussions, critiques and workshopping of new plays.
