Baltimore immersive theater company Submersive Productions will present three weekend performances of BATS!, an interactive, mixed media experience that explores madness and fear, from March 15 through 31 at the Marquee Lounge at The Creative Alliance, 3134 Eastern Ave.

BATS! is a new solo work conceived and performed by Michele Minnick, created in collaboration with Submersive Productions. Through conversation, stories, sound, accordion songs and original illustrations by Baltimore artist Chelsea Demitras, this show explores the tricky landscape of reason and insanity. Blurring the lines between fact and fiction, past and present, BATS! connects an extra-ordinary personal narrative to a larger story: the all-too-ordinary madness of American culture.

BATS! immersive theater experience. March 15-31; 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday, Saturday; 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Marquee Lounge at The Creative Alliance, 3134 Eastern Ave., Baltimore.TICKETS: Starting at $20, at https://www.artful.ly/store/events/14480

Michele has been an artistic associate with Submersive since the company's beginnings, serving on the directing team and training the ensemble for The Mesmeric Revelations! of Edgar Allan Poe. The first seed for BATS! was planted during a 2012 workshop with performance artist and activist Tim Miller. Michele shelved the idea to finish her doctoral thesis and was awaiting the right time for this investigation of the crazy in ourselves, and in our culture. Due to recent and current events we need not elucidate, that time is clearly now.

Submersive Productions is a collaborative artworks company that combines artistic disciplines to create memorable and profound audience experiences. The company was formed in 2015 to produce the spring and fall editions of The Mesmeric Revelations! of Edgar Allan Poe at the Enoch Pratt House at the Maryland Historical Society. That production earned a Best of Baltimore award for BEST THEATER EXPERIENCE (City Paper). In 2017, the company presented Plunge, and at the historic Peale Center (formerly Peale Museum) two runs of H.T. Darling's Incredible Musaeum: "The Treasures of New Galapagos, Astonishing Acquisitions from the Perisphere." Submersive's recent accolades include BEST ONE-OF-A-KIND THEATER COMPANY (Baltimore magazine), BEST ACTORS (for the entire ensemble; City Paper), BEST PROPOSAL TO MY MOM (City Paper) and TOP PRODUCTION OF 2017 (Baltimore Beat). Submersive seeks to create artworks that utilize unused, underused, or unusual spaces that reflect the architectural fabric of the city. For more information, visit www.submersiveproductions.com.
