Spotlighters Theatre presents Lanford Wilson's HOT_L BALTIMORE, set to open tonight, June 1, 2012 and running through June 24, 2012, Friday and Saturday at 8pm, and Sunday at 2pm. Directed by Eric Stein and featuring work by stage manager Molly Hopkins.
A brilliant Off-Broadway success by an outstanding playwright, which brings compassion, humor and arresting theatricality to its imaginative, touching study of lost souls trapped by society's inexorable decay. The scene is the lobby of a rundown hotel so seedy that it has lost the "e" from its marquee. Winner of the New York Drama Circle Award, the Obie Award and the Outer Critics Circle Award.
As the action unfolds, the residents, ranging from young to old, and from the defiant to the resigned, meet and talk and interact with each other during the course of one day. The drama is of passing events in their lives, of everyday encounters and of the human comedy, with conversations often overlapping into a contrapuntal musical flow. Each character emerges clearly and perceptively defined in the resulting mosaic, and the sum total of what they are — or wish they were — becomes a poignant, powerful call to America to recover lost values and to restore itself in its own and the world's eyes.
A talk-back with the cast and director will be held Sunday, June 17, immediately following performance.
On "Ten Spot Thursday," tickets are only $10 (June 21 - 8pm). For the normal run, tickets for adults are $20, seniors (60+) are $18 and students are $16. Order online at www.spotlighters.org.
