Single Carrot Theatre is changing and growing its staff for its upcoming season. Effective August 1, 2012, the company will be saying goodbye to longtime company member and Education Director Giti Jabaily and welcoming Steven Krigel and Ben Hoover into the Ensemble.
Jabaily’s departure is a bittersweet one. “Giti has been an essential contributor to our growth over the first years of the company. We wouldn’t have been able to accomplish as mush as we have without her drive and passion for excellence. We look forward to working with her as a guest artist in the future“, says Artistic Director Nathan Cooper. Jabaily has been with the company since its inception and built one of the largest education programs in any theatre in Baltimore City. Other members of Single Carrot Theatre aren’t the only ones saddened. Jabaily says of her impending departure, “I would not be who I am as an artist, and a person without Single Carrot Theatre. I am proud of what Single Carrot has accomplished and cannot wait to see what the next amazing steps of the SCT journey will be. I will miss being an ensemble member, but look forward to supporting SCT as an audience member and guest artist as it continues to grow and thrive”. Despite the loss, the organization is also filled with excitement for Jabaily. “It’s been such an enjoyable ride. Giti is so smart and talented and such an amazing person, teacher, and friend. But we are so excited to see what the next chapter brings for her and her family”. Jabaily’s plans for next year are to help build Baltimore Open Theatre, founded by her husband and Single Carrot Theatre Founding Artistic Director J. Buck Jabaily. As for her other plans for the year, “We are so excited to be having a baby in August, so that should keep me busy.”
It’s not all goodbyes for the company. Single Carrot has asked Ben Hoover and Steven Krigel (both members of the company’s fellowship program in the 2011-2012 season) to join the organization as company members. “I think what’s exciting is that Single Carrot Theatre has grown to a place where a person no longer has to have the University of Colorado on their resume to join us, and that’s a shift. I feel so blessed that the different things that brought us all to Baltimore- jobs, family, change- that something common has brought us together to make art. Who wouldn’t want to surround themselves with talented people?” says Managing Director Elliott Rauh. “Single Carrot Theatre is so lucky to grow our family to include Steven and Ben, and I couldn’t be happier.” Hoover will sign on as the Resident Scientist while Krigel has accepted the position of Resident Stage Manager.
