In the Baltimore premiere of Killer Joe by Tracy Letts, the Smith family, mired by economic turmoil, is forced to squeeze into a small trailer on the outskirts of Dallas, TX. Chris Smith, the family's outcast son, needs a quick solution to his mounting debt and ruthless collectors. Chris stumbles upon Killer Joe Cooper, a detective who moonlights as a can't-miss hit-man, and he cooks up a sinister scheme targeting his mother's large life insurance policy.

Tracy Letts, who was recently awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Drama Desk Award and Tony Award for Best Play for his play, August: Osage County, is the son to Best-Selling author Billie Letts and actor Dennis Letts.

His growing success and popularity as a playwright can be directly attributed to his sharp use of dark comedy, his stark, realistic portrayal of characters in crisis, and particularly in Killer Joe, his frighteningly accessible plot devices.

Killer Joe is a play about what happens when a back-stabbing goes awry, but it also offers a compelling look at a desperate family that can't ever seem to get out of a rut. With graphic violence, nudity, and adult situations, Killer Joe gives audiences a chillingly intimate invite into the Smith's trailer without being gratuitous.

"Killer Joe is funny, gritty and chaotic", says director Giti Jabaily, "and I think those who see this play will be able to experience a unique reaction to the violence they see on stage that is also happening in many areas of the country, the world and right here in Baltimore". With a edgy plot and risky script, audiences can expect an uncommon performance, according to Jabaily. "This play is for anyone who wants to truly experience theatre", she concludes.

Single Carrot Theatre's production of Killer Joe runs from February 20th-March 15th, and is the third full length production of their second season.
