Writing plays can be a lonely job, but the writing is only half the battle. To see his work fully realized, the playwright must find a theater willing to take a chance and produce his new, unproven work for the first time. The Mobtown Playwrights Group makes that step a little easier by proving space for staged reading, workshops and full productions.

This month MPG presents Look Twice, an evening of new plays that features two different looks at creativity. The show runs through April 3.

Ounce of Blues by Jim Cary
Directed by Mark Squirek, starring Michael Butscher, Lauren Blackwell, David Polgar and Richard Peck. In the summer of 1940 a serviceman fresh from his discharge visits the deep south looking for a fabled blues musician. What he encounters changes the lives of all around him.

Karkovice by Joe Dennison

Directed by John Garner, starring Mark Squirek. An artist finds himself trapped inside his own studio as he confronts what remains of his life, loves and work. The playwright's work combines the absurdist nature of Waiting for Godot with the rhythm and speed of a 1950's beat poet.

All tickets are $10 and can be purchased online or at the box office. The Mobtown Theater is located at Meadow Mill, 3600 Clipper Mill Road in Hampden. To purchase tickets or find directions to the Mobtown Theater, visit www.mobtownplayers.com.

Founded in 2007, Mobtown Playwright's Group was formed by the Mobtown Players to provide both experienced and first-time Maryland playwrights with a space where they can work towards a full production. Mobtown assists the playwright by providing actors, technical assistance and space where the piece can be work-shopped. Open readings of the works are held before a decision to produce and they are always free to anyone who wishes to attend. Information about the group can be found at www.mobtownplayers.com.
