McDaniel College musicians are involved in several exciting events planned throughout May. Unless otherwise noted, all events are free and open to the public. For information, call 410-857-2599.
Musical Theatre/Opera Workshop
7 p.m. May 3 in WMC Alumni Hall Studio Theatre
Under the direction of Senior Music Lecturer Kyle Engler, students in the Musical Theatre/Opera Workshop class will perform, "Gallantry," a one-act opera by Douglas Moore. The group also will perform operas scenes from Handel's "Orlando" and Mozart's "La Clemenza di Tito," and a musical theatre scene from "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change." Student performers are Joanna Caruthers, Timothy Connors, Andrea Emmons, Danielle Long, Christin Thomas and Amelia Vance. Of "Gallantry," Engler says, "It is an amusing piece that pokes fun at both opera and soap opera featuring arias for soprano, alto and tenor. We have also taken the liberty to change the gender of our Dr. Gregg and make the love triangle deal with lesbian love, a la ‘Grey's Anatomy.' "
An Evening of Madrigals
7:30 p.m. May 4 in Baker Chapel
A concert that celebrates a cappella singing as well as pieces with guitar accompaniment, and a smattering of audience participation. According to director Margaret Boudreaux, professor of Music, "just about everyone in the ensemble has a solo at one point or another in the program. The theme is, as our theme song "Pastime with Good Company" suggests, passing time in the best company imaginable - and that includes the audience as well!" The Madrigals are students Matthew Albertson, Colleen Alford, Sarah Brackbill, Alex Dennis, Rich Esposito, Sara Groveman, Anne Hebert, Leslie Higgins, Kathleen Levendusky, Amber Maurer, Jeneice Shaw and Joshua Vyskocil.
