Maryland Ensemble Theatre (MET) is thrilled to present a world premiere original production based on Mary Shelley's immortal classic Frankenstein. The ensemble-devised piece will be helmed by MET Associate Artistic Director, Julie Herber. The play will run at MET for four weeks beginning October 23.

Mary Shelley began writing the story when she was 18 and her novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus was published anonymously in 1818, when she was twenty years old. The author's name appeared on the second edition published in 1823. The story is about a young science student named Victor Frankenstein who successfully reanimates a dead body through a combination of chemistry, alchemy and electricity. What happens next is a story of invention, remorse, revenge and great internal trials as the creature and its creator navigate the consequences of its creation.

MET's original version of the famous gothic tale will be created by the concept team of Julie Herber, Sarah Shulman, Gene´ Fouche´, Isabel Duarte, Caitlyn Joy, Reiner Prochaska, Ken Poisson, Tim Seltzer, Matt Lee, Katie Rattigan, Vanessa Strickland, Bethanie Herman, and Jack Evans. Herber will direct a talented cast of Isabel Duarte, Caitlyn Joy, Reiner Prochaska, Tim Seltzer, Matt Lee, Katie Rattigan, Vanessa Strickland and Jack Evans. The set will be designed by Celia Lee, with costumes by Stephanie Hyder, sound design from Steve Younkins and lighting design by Paul Shillinger.

Frankenstein will run every Thursday through Sunday from October 23 to November 15 at MET, located in the historic FSK Hotel at 31 W Patrick Street in downtown Frederick, MD. There will be a pay-what-you-can preview on October 22 at 8pm (cash only/no reservations). The opening will be celebrated on October 23 with a costume gala featuring a pre-show reception at 7pm sponsored by Giant Eagle and hosted by MET Board Members Abby Sievers and Lia Seltzer. The party continues following the show with prizes for best costume and a performance from the band, SeaKnuckle!

Tickets to Frankenstein are $17 through $26 and can be purchased at 301-694-4744, marylandensemble.org or in person at the Maryland Ensemble Theatre box office. As an added service this year the third Thursday of all Mainstage shows will be a sign-interpreted performance; for Frankenstein that performance will be November 5 at 8pm. This show is made possible in part through the support of the show sponsor Holistic Health and Associates and MET's season sponsors including Comcast, Frederick Magazine, Key 103, Eagle 106.9, Maryland Oral Surgery Associates, The Frederick News Post and both the Frederick and Maryland Arts Councils.
