Maryland Ensemble Theatre (MET) is proud to present The Shape of Things, a play by critically acclaimed playwright Neil Labute that questions love, happiness, and relationship roles. The Shape of Things is a bitterly funny, controversial restatement of the biblical story of Adam and Eve, exploring morality and gender roles in '90s America. The play is both compelling and cautionary in its approach, and provides a satisfying twist that will have audiences discussing the plot long after leaving the theatre.

The Shape of Things premiered in London in 2001 with a cast featuring Paul Rudd and Rachel Weisz directed by Labute. In 2003 Labute also directed a film version with the original cast. A veteran of stage and screen, Labute, has directed over a dozen films and written over twenty plays. In 2013 he was honored with an Arts and Letters Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. The production at MET will be directed by Steve Custer and feature a talented cast of Giovanni Kavota, Devin Gaither, Emily Raines and Ian Hoch. The production team will include Emily Perper (assistant director/stage manager), Doug Grove (lights), Jim Wauters (set), Jen Tonon (videographer) and Matthew Ancarrow will compose original music for the show.

The Shape of Things will be presented as part of MET-X: special programming created outside of MET's Mainstage season and often self-produced by the MET's own company members to expand the collective horizons of both the ensemble and its audience. The Shape of Things is co-produced by Steve Custer, Ian Hoch and Jim Wauters. The Shape of Things will run on Friday and Saturday nights at 8pm from August 28 through September 5. All shows are at Maryland Ensemble Theatre (31 W Patrick St. Frederick) located in the historic FSK Hotel. Tickets for The Shape of Things are $17.00 (all fees included) and can be purchased at 301-694-4744, marylandensemble.org or in person at Maryland Ensemble Theatre box office.
