The Howard County Arts Council is pleased to announce that Howard County business leaders and supporters of the arts and education, Elizabeth and Peter Horowitz will serve as Honorary Hosts of the 14th annual Celebration of the Arts in Howard County. The Celebration gala, presented by the Arts Council, will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2011 from 6:00 - 10:00 pm at its new location The Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center. The Horowitz's will open the festivities by welcoming guests to the stunning arts wing at Howard Community College named in their honor. Bach and Robert Jeffrey, long-time Columbia residents and community leaders, will serve as Honorary Chairs for the Celebration of the Arts gala. Bach is a local dentist who enjoys painting and playing the piano. Bob is an arts enthusiast and accomplished financial advisor with Morgan Stanley Smith Barney. The Jeffreys will be recognized on stage and present one of the Howie Awards. Richard W. Story, Executive Director of the Howard County Economic Development Authority, will emcee the program.

The Celebration is the Arts Council's major source of annual corporate support. In 13 years, the event has raised $934,210; proceeds from the event not only underwrite the event but provide the Arts Council with the resources necessary to fund grants to organizations and to offer arts programs all year round. Celebration 2011 will also be celebrating the Arts Council's 30th Anniversary in addition to featuring the ever-popular Rising Star competition for emerging performing artists. The winner of the competition will receive a $5,000 professional development award. Other highlights include a reception featuring a silent auction of visual art work, performances, culinary delights from two dozen distinctive Howard County restaurants, and the Howie Awards, which recognize individuals and businesses for their significant contributions to the arts.

Sponsorships and volunteer opportunities are available. Tickets are $100 (Reception and Performance) and $50 (Reception and Lounge). For more information, call 410.313.ARTS (2787) or visit www.hocoarts.org.
