Lisa Hayes will perform her one-woman show NURSE! at 322 North Howard as part of this year's Charm City Fringe Festival in the Bromo Arts District. The 11-day festival runs from November 1-11.
NURSE! immerses the audience in the world of a labor strike and the journey of nurses who stand up for safer working conditions. Hayes plays 9 characters in the 60-minute play, from the charismatic nurse who leads the strike to the cigar-chomping lawyer for management.
Performances of NURSE! will be November 3 at 4:45 pm, November 4 at 6:30 pm, and November 7 and November 9 at 8:15 pm. Tickets can be ordered at http://charmcityfringe.com/tickets.
Based on interviews with nurses in Buffalo and Long Island, NURSE! debuted off-Broadway in 2003 and has since been enjoyed by audiences from New York to Wyoming, and Istanbul to Glasgow. This will be its first performance in Baltimore.
"Performing NURSE! in Baltimore feels like a homecoming," said Lisa Hayes. "Baltimore was my theatrical home before moving to New York City to pursue an acting career and then to Buffalo for graduate school." Ms. Hayes recently stepped down from a second career as CEO of a living history museum and park in Prince George's County to focus on performing her solo shows and on developing museum theatre projects.
Charm City Fringe will feature 23 productions from all over North America during the 11-day festival. It is partnering with the Downtown Partnership of Baltimore and the Bromo Arts District, which is providing programming support. Charm City Fringe is also made possible with support from the Maryland State Arts Council, the William G. Baker, Jr. Memorial Fund, and the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts.
