Imagination Stage's Musical Theatre Conservatory will perform Zombie Prom, a girl-loves-ghoul rock and roll musical set in the atomic 1950's, on May 18-20, 2018 in the Christopher and Dana Reeve Studio Theatre.
At Enrico Fermi High, a high-strung principal, Miss Strict, sets the rules. When sweet Senior Toffee breaks up with the rebellious Jonny because her family pressures her to end the romance, he charges off on his motorcycle to the town's nuclear waste dump. He returns glowing and determined to reclaim Toffee's heart. He still wants to graduate, but most of all, he wants to take Toffee to the prom. The music of Zombie Prom is by Dana P. Rowe, with book and lyrics by John Dempsey.
"The essential message of the show is about inclusion and celebration of diversity. That was relevant in 1993 when the show premiered, and it's even more relevant now. I think the world has made great strides in that area; but we still have far to go!" says Director Shirley Serotsky. "High School is still a time for young people to make important decisions about their identities. It's a period for growth and exploration; new friends and burgeoning interests; a time to clarify values and establish priorities. And Zombie Prom, in all of its fabulous, 1950s-inspired Atomic-Age kitsch, depicts this time with humor and heart. We hope you'll enjoy this trip down memory lane with us." The cast is comprised of high school performers within Imagination Stage's Musical Theatre Conservatory program, headed up by Associate Director of Education, Nikki Kaplan.
Zombie Prom runs in Imagination Stage's Reeve Studio Theatre May 18-19, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. and May 20, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $12 per person, and may be purchased online at www.imaginationstage.org, at the Imagination Stage box office, or via phone at 301?280?1660.
