Antigone will uniquely incorporate dance elements to the story of Sophocles ' Greek tragedy. Antigone runs in Imagination Stage's Lerner Family Theatre March 16 - 17, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. and March 18, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $ 12 per person, and may be purchased online at www.imaginationstage.org, at the Imagination Stage box office, or via phone at 301 280 1660.
" Like the works of Shakespeare, it's incredibly exciting to see how this Ancient Greek piece continues to be relevant to our world today. The political unrest, questioning of one's leaders, and balancing act of staying faithful to one's political persuasions strike such a chord with today's current events, " says Director Nikki Kaplan, who also serves as Associate Director of Education at Imagination Stage.
Nikki is delighted to team up once again with collaborators Alison Gee and Sara Herrera as they incorporate contemporary dance into this classic play, similar in style to last year's innovative and sophisticated The Manhattan Project's Alice in Wonderland. The cast is comprised of Imagination Stage's most advanced high school performers, many of whom are graduates of Imagination Stage's Conservatory program.
The IStage Performance Ensemble ( ISPE ) gives teen performers with intermediate to advanced level performance skills the opportunity to apply their technique to a full - fledged production. Students work in a professional rehearsal setting and perform on Imagination Stage's Lerner Family Theatre stage fully supported by a guest team of directors and designers from the professional theatre community of Washington, DC. The ensemble performs two shows each year, with a fall ensemble open to grades 6 - 12 and a winter ensemble open to grades 8 - 12.
Directed by Nikki Kaplan and Assistant Directed by Alison Gee, Antigone is designed by a team of professional designers and artists, including Sara Herrera ( Choreographer ), Jason Arnold ( Lighting Designer ), Amy MacDonald ( Costume Designer ), Robert Pike ( Sound Designer ), and Audrey Bodek ( Scenic Consultant ).
