Howard County's Celebration Of The Arts Held 4/25, Tickets Now On Sale

Tickets are still available for Howard County's signature event, Celebration of the Arts in Howard County on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at The Jim Rouse Theatre at Wilde Lake High School, Columbia. Tickets are $50 for balcony seating and $75 for orchestra seats. There are a limited number of $25 tickets available for the 8 p.m. Main Stage Show only. Time is running out so be sure to purchase tickets now via web at www.hocoarts.org, by phone at 410-313-ARTS (2787) or in the office at Howard County Arts Council, 8510 High Ridge Road, Ellicott City, MD 21043. All $25 tickets and any remaining tickets will be available at the box office at The Jim Rouse Theatre on the day of the event.

This year's gala will feature a reception from 6-8 p.m. with a silent auction of artwork by local artists, culinary delights from area restaurants and caterers and Main Street Performers. At 8 p.m. the musical performances on the Main Street Stage begin; guests are invited inside The Jim Rouse Theatre for the presentation of the 2008 Howie Awards and the Rising Star Competition, the 2009 Howard County Arts Council's Arts Scholarship Recipients will also be announced! Raffle tickets are also available for $5 per ticket or 5 for $20.

The Rising Star Competition showcases niNe Young performing artists - living, working or studying in Howard County - vying for a no-strings-attached professional development award. The audience will choose a winner to receive $5,000! The nine finalists performing at the Celebration are: Curtis Bannister (Musical Theatre), Heather Marie Beck (Musical Theatre), Lauren Dutterer, (Musical Theatre), Steven J. Eddy, (Opera), Jillian Finnamore (Opera), Kassi Mattera (Modern Dance), Cameron McNary (Monologue), Michael Watts (Cello), and DeWanda Wise (Monologue).

The Main Street Stage presentation includes the presentation of the Howie Awards, which honor three individuals, or businesses that have made a significant impact on the arts in Howard County . This year's recipients are: David Zuccarini for Outstanding Artist, Wayne Larrivey for Outstanding Art Educator and Richard B. Talkin for Outstanding Business Supporter of the Arts. This year the Arts Council will be giving a Legacy in the Arts Award to Doris and Dr. Claude Ligon.

Randall M. Griffin, President and CEO of Corporate Office Properties Trust (COPT), serves as Honorary Chair at this year's gala. Richard W. Story, CEO of the Howard County Economic Development Authority, will serve as Event Host.
