Howard County Arts Council Welcomes New Deputy Director

The Howard County Arts Council is pleased to announce that Tammy Oppel has joined its staff in the position of Deputy Director. Ms. Oppel will be responsible for managing the Howard County Center for the Arts and maximizing the use of the Center as a resource for the arts.

Ms. Oppel has an M.A. in Arts Administration from Goucher College and earned a B.A. in Theatre Arts from Towson University. For eight years she served as Schools Program Manager at Arts Every Day, a non-profit organization working in partnership with Baltimore City Public Schools to strengthen learning by making arts education and cultural experiences an integral part of classroom instruction. During that time, Tammy established the organization's Schools Program and grew its reach from three to 36 schools, impacting over 17,000 students and 1,200 educators, and promoting over 500 teaching artists and arts & cultural programs each year. Tammy is "delighted to join the Arts Council staff in its continuing efforts to strengthen the arts as well as opportunities for artists and arts organizations in Howard County and beyond."

The Howard County Center for the Arts is open Monday through Thursday from 9 am until 10 pm, Friday from 9 am until 8 pm, Saturdayfrom 10 am until 4 pm, and Sunday from noon until 4 pm. For more information on Arts Council programs and activities, call 410-313-ARTS (2787) or visit hocoarts.org.
