This summer the Arts Council has something for everyone. Beginning June 24, kids can learn and get excited about the visual, literary, and performing arts at Summer Arts Camp '10. Everyone can enjoy a visit to our galleries for the Resident Visual Artists Exhibit 2010 and Contrast & Symmetry in June and HoCo Open 2010 and No Boundaries in July and August. Local performing artists and painters are invited to participate in one of our Open Mic Nights on June 17 and July 8 or our plein air paint out, Paint It! Ellicott City ! Whether you are a member, a friend of the arts, or a curious newcomer, stop by and let the Arts Council put a little sizzle in your summer.

There is still some space in HCAC's 2010 Visual and Performing Arts Summer Camps for students grade K-7. For your visual art lover we have classes in portraits, cartooning, recycled art, embroidery, and more. Musical theatre, contemporary dance, Shakespeare, and flute camps will thrill your young performing artists, and puppetry and story writing and poetry camps are ideal for your budding writer.

HCAC is also offering intensive camps the week of July 4, the week of August 16, and an intensive workshop for advanced flutists from June 25-27. Campers can register for a full or half day of classes; before and after care is also available. Register online by visiting our website or call 410-313-ARTS(2787) with questions.

If you are a Howard County artist, ages 18+, you are invited to participate in HoCo Open 2010! Artists can submit one piece of original artwork completed in the past two years. Artwork drop-off is 4:00-6:00 p.m. on June 28 at the Arts Council. Artwork will be accepted for the exhibit on a first-come, first-serve basis, one piece per artist, until the gallery is full. There will be an opening reception on Thursday, July 8 from 6-8 PM. Also on display, the exhibit for No Boundaries, featuring work by youth and adults with developmental disabilities, presented in partnership with the Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks, Therapeutic Recreation and Inclusion Services, and Cedar Lane School. HoCo Open and No Boundaries will be on display from July 2, 2010 through Friday, August 13, 2010.

Be sure to mark your calendar for the reception on July 8, which will also feature Open Mic Night ENCORE! hosted by Bruce Nelson from 6:30-8:30pm.
