The Howard County Arts Council is pleased to announce that Ken and Jaki Ulman will serve as Honorary Chairs of the 2012 Celebration of the Arts in Howard County. The Celebration gala, presented by the Arts Council, will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2012 from 6:00 - 10:00 pm at the Peter and Elizabeth Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center at Howard Community College.

During the program, the Ulmans will make remarks and present one of several awards.

Ken and Jaki Ulman recognize the value of the arts on education, community and our quality of life. So, when Ken became County Executive, Howard County's 1st couple gladly added "arts ambassadors" to their civic duties. Today, they continue to support the arts and devote much of their public life to attending concerts, performances and cultural events. And, with their two daughters taking to the stage in theater and dance, their private life is increasingly focused on the arts as well.

"Jaki and I look forward to this event each year, and are excited to be serving as Honorary Chairs for the 2012 Celebration," said Howard County Executive Ken Ulman. "We encourage everyone to mark their calendars and join us this year as we showcase an amazingly talented group of local performance and visual artists."

Susan Porter, President of the Art Council Board says "We are delighted to have Ken and Jaki serve as this year's Honorary Chairs. As an advocate for community-based arts it is so important for the Arts Council to have leaders from the public and private sectors - like Ken and Jacki - step forward and put a spotlight on the arts."

The Celebration is the Arts Council's major source of annual corporate support. In 14 years, the event has raised $1,022,011; proceeds from the event provide the Arts Council with the resources necessary to fund grants and scholarships, to support a guest artist series at HCC, and to offer arts programs all year round. Celebration 2012 will feature the popular Rising Star competition for emerging performing artists. The winner of the competition will receive a $5,000 professional development award. Richard W. Story, Senior Vice President of Marketing at JPB Enterprises, will reprise his role as emcee. Other highlights include a reception featuring eclectic entertainment, a silent auction of visual art work, culinary delights from 20 distinctive Howard County restaurants, and the Howie Awards, which recognize individuals and businesses for their significant contributions to the arts.

Sponsorships and volunteer opportunities are available. Tickets are $100 (Reception and Performance) and $50 (Reception and Studio Theatre). For more information, call 410.313.ARTS (2787) or visit www.hocoarts.org.
