HCC's Arts Collective to Present Truman Capote's HOLIDAY MEMORIES Image

Howard Community College's (HCC) Arts Collective continues its 23rd season with "Holiday Memories," adapted for the stage B. Russell Vandenbroucke, from Truman Capote's favorite holiday stories, "The Thanksgiving Visitor" and "A Christmas Memory." The production will take place December 7-10, in the Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center's (HVPA) Studio Theatre.

Arts Collective invites audiences to follow the poignant, true-life adventures of Capote as a young boy during one holiday season in the 1930s' American South. In the nostalgic style and spirit of fireside chats, Arts Collective, under the direction of Susan Kramer, plays with light and shadow, live music, and a cast of students, alumni, staff, faculty, and community artists to bring these heart-warming stories to life.

"Holiday Memories" includes Truman's most celebrated holiday stories, "The Thanksgiving Visitor" and "A Christmas Memory," which center on seven-year-old Truman's experiences with his family of distant relatives in rural Alabama, especially as they portray a loving tribute to his young-at-heart cousin, Miss Sook. It is an unforgettable portrait of these dear, unlikely friends, and their beloved holiday rituals.

Free Intermission Treat in Exchange for Donating a Children's Book: Get into the wonderful spirit of the season by bringing to the show a new or gently used hard-cover children's picture book (suitable for infants to five years old), which will be donated to Howard Community College's Children's Learning Center "Library for Little Readers," and receive a free treat at intermission, courtesy of Arts Collective!

Performances will take place on Thursday, December 7 and Friday, December 8 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, December 9 at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, December 10 at 3 p.m. in the Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center's Studio Theatre, located A. Howard Community College, 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia, Maryland 21044. There will be a special post-show discussion following the Sunday, December 10 performance. Parental guidance note: Recommended for ages 8 and up.

Tickets are $15 for general admission, and $10 for students, seniors, faculty, staff, and military. For tickets, visit www.howardcc.edu/artscollective/holidaymemories or call 443-518-1500. The box office will also be open 90 minutes prior to each show time and Tuesday-Friday, 12-5 p.m.
