Mandi and Meg are doing fine until Mandi asks about her father. Meg has kept the story secret for 15 years and is not about to tell her daughter now. Meg and Mandy are forced to face the truth about the past, themselves and each other. Asking Questions is about a woman coming to terms with her shame, lies and loneliness, a daughter longing for the father she never knew existed, and a guy acknowledging that he's been a creep.
From playwright, Nancy Murray: "This play was inspired by my teen years, my son's and daughter's lives and anyone trying to safely navigate the mixed messages and the confusing feelings inspired by their coming of age. This story came to me in theatrical form because it is asking questions that we should ask ourselves and each other in the presence of our community...What kind of people are we?"
From director, Peter Davis: "I heard Nancy perform spoken word poetry at a cultural event. Her writing knocked me out. While her script and her spoken word are different, they both evoke vivid images, strong feelings and convey deep meaning. Actors will be able to really lean into their characters. I am drawn to this potential." Featured in the cast are Shanna Babbidge, Kevin Moreno, Julia Pickens and Andrew Syropoulos.
Asking Questions, opens on August 12th and runs until August 28th, 2011. Performances are Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 7 pm. Admission for all shows is $12.
