Shake the winter doldrums, and join the Franklin School for the Performing Arts (FSPA) in an afternoon of song and dance entitled "Broadway-Past and Present" on Saturday, January 29 at 4:00 p.m. at the Thomas D. Mercer Auditorium, Horace Mann Middle School, 224 Oak Street. The FSPA performing troupes and musical theater classes will present songs from classic and contemporary Broadway shows.

Musical numbers include "Don't Rain on My Parade" from Funny Girl, "Let the Sun Shine/Aquarius" from Hair, "I Won't Grow Up" from Peter Pan, "It's Possible" from Seussical, "Good Morning Baltimore" from Hairspray, "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" from Spamalot , "It's the Hard Knock Life" from Annie, "Be Kind to your Parents" from Fanny and "When I Get My Name In Lights" from The Boys from Oz. FSPA's Electric Youth will perform two songs from the program for their upcoming concert on March 6th at Showcase Live in Foxboro.

FSPA's five Musical Theater Performing Troupes are cast each school year by audition. The members of Broadway Light, Broadway Ladies, Broadway Bound, BLT2 and Lite Brites are triple threat performers who study music, dance and drama at FSPA. Curriculum for these students encompasses advanced work in ensemble singing, vocal and acting technique, and various disciplines of dance. The FSPA Musical Theater faculty includes Director Raye Lynn Mercer, Tracy Lane, Nick Paone, Kim Rezendes, Cara Ricci, Kellie Stamp and Hallie Wetzell.

All FSPA musical theater performances are accompanied by live music. The Broadway showcase features Boston musicians Kenny Hadley on drums, bassist and arranger Mark Poniatowski, guitarist Mark White, and FSPA Director Raye Lynn Mercer on piano.
