Thirteen talented young performers were recently selected by audition for Electric Youth, a dynamic ensemble of singer-dancers trained at the Franklin School for the Performing Arts. Electric Youth will perform throughout the Greater Boston area during the year before embarking on a "Broadway" Caribbean cruise to perform from June 26-July 3, 2011.
The new Electric Youth members join Ali Funkhouser 14, Galen Hancock, 17, Avery McStay 17 and Catherine Weiss, 17 of Franklin; Michael Egan, 17 of Hopkinton; Erica McLaughlin 16 of Medfield; and Callie Liljeberg, 17 of Wrentham.
Electric Youth is accompanied in performance by an eight-piece show band of Boston area professionals including pianist Raye Lynn Mercer, Kenny Hadley on drums, Mark Poniatowski on bass, Mark White on guitar, Walter Platt on trumpet, Jeff Hoyer on trombone, Ken Reid on baritone saxophone and Arnie Krakowsky on tenor saxophone. The group's repertoire includes an extensive list of Broadway, Rock, Hip Hop, Country and Pop hits, staged with exciting, high energy choreography.
Internationally renowned venues played by Electric Youth include the Konzerthaus, Musikverein and Schonbrunn Palace in Vienna, Austria as well as San Remo's Ariston Theater, Lignano Beach, Bibione and Villa Manin in Italy. Electric Youth was featured in an Off- Broadway Showcase in New York City in January, 2010 where they were represented at the Association of Performing Arts Presenters Convention. EY has entertained in Boston at Fenway Park, the Life Is Good Festival, the Volvo Ocean Race the 2004 Democratic National Convention as well as at area corporate, civic and private events. They have provided Fourth of July shows for the U.S. troops stationed in Italy at Camp Ederle, Camp Darby and at Aviano Air Force Base. EY's month-long summer 2010 European Tour included 15 shows in Austria, Slovenia and Italy.
Local audiences can plan to see Electric Youth in concert in 2011 at Showcase Live on March 6, at Mechanics Hall in Worcester on Mother's Day and at local Concerts on The Common in the summer.
