Everyman Theatre will host its next installment of The World of the Play panel discussion series on Saturday, March 7 at 5PM (rescheduled from February 21 due to the snow storm). The powerful discussion entitled "You Will Not Fight Your Battles On My Body Anymore" will be inspired by the themes of Lynn Nottage's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Ruined, playing at Everyman now through March 8. The discussion will be hosted by radio personality Marc Steiner.
The discussion will include three expert panelists: Jennifer Breads (a forensic nurse examiner), Raguel F. Broy (Program Manager for Health and Youth programs with the IRC) and Jacqueline Robarge (Executive Director of Power Inside).
Ms. Breads is a Forensic Nurse Examiner at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland, where she provides clinical care for male and female survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. In 2014, she worked with the International Rescue Committee to support the implementation of Women's Protection & Empowerment programs across three camps for Syrian refugees in northern Iraq. She is also a Clinical Instructor at the Johns Hopkins University, School of Nursing.
Ms. Broy has been dedicated to the field of social work with an emphasis on serving displaced populations for more than six years. She currently serves as the Program Manager for Health and Youth programs with the International Rescue Committee (IRC), working with Baltimore's refugee population by providing wrap-around case management to highly vulnerable clients, crisis intervention and advocacy services. She also oversees the Women's Protection Empowerment program, which works to screen women for instances of gender-based and intimate partner violence, provide resources to survivors of violence and those who continue to be the victims of domestic violence.
Ms. Robarge has spent more than two decades working to end gender-based violence and oppression. Her work has included trauma healing and justice projects, white anti-racism organizing, consulting and training, action research, and a range of human rights advocacy. Jacqueline is currently the Executive Director of Power Inside, a Baltimore harm reduction and human rights organization for women and girls. Since 2001, Power Inside has worked with 300 women impacted by incarceration, street life, and abuse per year. In her role as an appointed member of the Maryland Statewide Prisoner Reentry Task Force and the Governor's Commission to Reform Maryland's Pretrial System, she advocated for reform of policies that give rise to preemptive arrests and mass incarceration of people of color and people with disabilities.
"Ruined" is running now through March 8th, offering performances Wednesday through Sunday, with selected Tuesday evening and Wednesday matinee performances.
