Everyman Theatre will host patrons of Baltimore's Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped on a "touch tour" of the set of Everyman's current production, You Can't Take It With You. The tour is scheduled for Thursday, June 7th at 1:00 PM at Everyman Theatre.
Everyman has partnered with the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped for several years. Each season, the Everyman hosts what is known as a "touch tour" of a given production. This tour allows patrons of the Library for the Blind to touch and explore various aspects of the set, sound and costume design for the show.
The upcoming "tour" of You Can't Take It With You will include exploring the multi-floored set of a 1930s New York home, hearing the various sound effects used to create fireworks and explosions in the "basement" of the house, touching the different fabrics used to create period costumes, and feeling the vibrations from an on-stage xylophone. You Can't Take It With You is the last show of Everyman's 2011/12 season and is running now through June 17th.
"In an age that is increasingly visual, it is important to not lose the idea that theatre is a living art form," says Everyman Education Director Marcus Kyd. "You don't just see a play - you hear a play, you feel a play. By honoring all the dimensions of a performance, Everyman's work truly becomes accessible to all."
The Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped provides comprehensive library services to the eligible blind and physically handicapped residents of the State of Maryland. They aim to provide innovative and quality services to meet the needs of their patrons.
Throughout the season, Everyman also brings casts from selected plays to perform scenes at the Library. Last month, the cast of The Brothers Size performed excerpts of the show for the Library's patrons. Everyman also offers audio described performances of all productions. Patrons may request audio description on a given date by calling the box office during normal business hours.
