Everyman Theatre has announced its line-up of upcoming acting classes for Fall, 2013. The Actor's Body Series will be a weekly offering of five master classes, which each focus on specialized movement techniques for aspiring and professional actors. The Series may be taken on a class-by-class basis or you can sign-up for the complete offering. All classes are taught by well-known, professional actors from the Baltimore/Washington region
The first week will be a beginning class in the Suzuki Method of Actor Training. The class will introduce students to the basic exercises and philosophy of one of the most influential theatre methodologies in the world. The method addresses the primary elements of physical presence - awareness, concentration and specificity. The class will be taught by Shawn Fagan, a former member of the Siti Company. The class will take place on Monday, September 23rd from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.
Viewpoints and Composition will be the second class in the Series. Taught by Rep Stage's co-Artistic Director Joseph Ritsch, the class will be an intensive introduction into the technique that was originated by Mary Overlie and made famous by Anne Bogart and the Siti Company. The class will take place on Monday, September 30th from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.
Elena Day will teach the Power Play class on Monday, October 7th from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. Power Play will on the "play" aspect of theatre and using a changing physicality to help you create a character. Ms. Day draws her techniques from Jacques Lecoq, the renowned physical theatre teacher, to influence this class.
The fourth week will focus on Devising and the Art of Play. Also Lecoq-based, this class will focus on the idea of devising, which harnesses the inherent skill of creating dramatic scenarios and characters. The class will be taught by Rachel Hynes, who is the Co-Artistic Director of experimental theatre group, Helsinki Syndrome. This class will occur on Monday, October 14th from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.
The final class of the Series will focus on the Alexander Technique. The class will take place on Monday, October 21st from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the theatre. The Alexander Technique informs actors on how they move and how they communicate while on stage. The class will be taught by Catholic University faculty member Mary Naden, who has over 25 years of teaching experience working with speakers and movers.
Any experience level is welcome for all classes during the The Actor's Body Series. All students must be 17 years old or above.
