Everyman is thrilled to bring you an exciting new array of classes. We have everything from classes for the theatre patron (Theatre 101 and Beginning Acting for Adults), to the young aspiring actor (Theatre Games for Young Actors and Unarmed Stage Combat for Teens), to the actor wanting to learn new techniques (Movement for the Actor), and even a class on Stage Management (Stage Management Intensive). Resident company member Bruce Nelson returns with his Improv series as well.

Theatre Games for Young Actors: Part I
Theatre Games offer an organic approach to learning theater performance skills through games. These improvisational techniques develop sensory awareness, ensemble creation, physical and verbal agility, and heightened spontaneity-skills essential to both improvisational as well as formal theater, and valuable to anyone wanting to build a more direct connection to their creative intuition.

Part I orients students to the technique and structure of playing the games and introduces a non-acting, problem-solving approach to improvisation. Games in this session establish the importance of the actor's focus and introduce the fundamentals of relationship, action, and involvement with space - the building blocks of scene-work. The class is open to players of all levels, no prior experience necessary.
Dates: Mondays and Saturdays; January 24 through February 19
Times: Mondays, 4:00-6:00pm and Saturdays, 10:00am-12:00pm.
Instructor: Maia DeSanti
Tuition: $250.
For High School Students (9th -12th grade)

Theatre 101
Everything you always wanted to know about how a play gets from the page to the performance. Starting with the play selection process and casting, we'll explore how all the elements come together from the first rehearsal to the closing performance. Discover the people who work behind the scenes to bring a play to life including the director, designers and technicians.
Dates: Mondays, January 24 - February 28
Time: 7:00pm - 9:00 pm
Instructor: Carmela Lanza-Weil
Tuition: $180.

Movement for the Actor
Movement for the Actor will teach students to identify both physical and vocal habits and to shape and change them to inform character development. Once students experience how their bodies move through space and in their daily lives, and how sound and voice are produced and shaped, they can begin to make choices that redefine their habits. This body knowledge will allow actors to fully realize and integrate the physical and vocal lives of the characters they play.
Dates: Saturdays, January 22 - February 26
Time: 10:00am - 12:00pm
Instructor: Deborah Hazlett
Tuition: $200

Unarmed Stage Combat for Teens
Ever wondered how actors fight onstage without hurting each other? Want to be able to amaze your friends (and prospective directors) with your fighting skills on stage? Our Stage Combat class will provide students with a core vocabulary of unarmed stage combat training including punches, kicks, falls, and rolls. The class will rehearse and perform several choreographed combat scenes before the end of the session. Focus will be placed on performing the fights realistically and safely.
Dates: Mondays, March 14 - April 11
Time: 4:00pm - 6:00pm
Instructor: Drew Kopas
Tuition: $150
For ages 14-18

Learn how to put together a prompt book, keep track of props and actors, call cues, organize schedules, and much more in this 3-hour intensive class.
Date: Saturday, May 21

Improv I
Improvisation is not about being funny; it's about being true. This beginning level course will help students learn to trust their creative instincts, improve listening skills and hone their connections through the art of improv. A safe and supportive classroom environment will allow students to take the improv exercises and create dynamic and committed work. For the local professional looking to enhance his or her skill set, for those brand new to theatre and for any person needing to let go, live in the moment and deepen daily interactions.
Dates: Mondays, June 6 - June 27
Time: 6pm - 9pm
Instructor: Bruce Nelson
Tuition: $200
For ages 18 and above

Improv II
With the skills learned in Improv I, this second level course will continue to help students hone their creative instincts while emphasizing the importance of forming a team bond. A safe and supportive classroom environment will allow students to detail their characterizations and more fully commit to their space work when establishing mimed stage locations and activities. Scene structure will be practiced in a way that emphasizes working with your partner, developing conflict and finding a resolution. Constructive criticism will be encouraged as will open give and take about making scenes stronger, not necessarily funnier. Verbal and non-verbal listening will be fine-tuned as will letting go and living in the improvised moment.
Dates: Mondays, July 11 - August 1, 2011
Time: 6pm - 9pm
Instructor: Bruce Nelson
Tuition: $200
For ages 18 and above
