"The Other Place" by Sharr White
Directed by Joseph W. Ritsch
REGIONAL PREMIERE
September 7-25, 2016
Juliana Smithton is a successful neurologist whose life seems to be coming unhinged. Her husband has filed for divorce, her daughter has eloped with a much older man, and her own health is in jeopardy. But in this brilliantly crafted work, nothing is as it seems. Piece by piece, a mystery unfolds as fact blurs with fiction, past collides with present and the elusive truth about Juliana boils to the surface.
"American Hero" by Bess Wohl
Directed by Suzanne Beal
REGIONAL PREMIERE
November 2-20, 2016
At a toasted subs franchise in the local mall, three up-and-coming "sandwich artists"-a teenager, a single mom, and a downsized refugee from corporate banking-are perfecting the mustard-to-cheese ratio, according to the company manual. When their shot at the American dream is interrupted by a series of strange events, they become unlikely allies in a post-recession world. "American Hero" is a supersized dark comedy about life, liberty, and the pursuit of sandwiches.
"H2O" by Jane Martin
Directed by Kasi Campbell
February 15 - March 5, 2017
After arriving to the City of Angels, an aimless young man catapults to movie stardom and into Hollywood's sleazy celebrity culture. Banking on his fame (and name), he is selected to appear on Broadway in Hamlet. Given full casting approval, he embarks to New York City to seek out his Ophelia and encounters his muse and his match -a young evangelical Christian woman set on getting the role... and saving his life. "H2O" transports audiences into the reclusive, madcap world of Jane Martin's drama/comedy/love story about self-destruction, notoriety, and the dark journey to purity and salvation.
"DORIAN'S CLOSET" Book & Lyrics by Richard Mailman and Music by Ryan Haase
Directed by Joseph Ritsch
Choreographed by Rachel Dolan
Musical Direction by Stacey Antoine
WORLD PREMIERE
April 26 - May 14, 2017
"Dorian's Closet" is a new musical based on the life of Dorian Corey, the legendary female impersonator immortalized in the documentary "Paris Is Burning." The story is a fictionalized account of Dorian's life and what leads to the discovery of a mummified body in her Harlem apartment's closet after her death in the early 1990s. Confronted with ridicule and prejudice, she persisted in her quest for love and fame. From Dorian's early days touring the drag circuits of the 1970s, through her rise in the underground club scene in New York City in the 1980s and beyond, "Dorian's Closet" takes us on a musical journey that explores just how far we will go to make our dreams a reality.
