This year's annual summer fest is a world music blow out! 13 piece Banda Kaliente plays Salvadorian cumbia, merengue and salsa and The Continentals roll out the polkas. The Love Peace Project fuses hip hop and West African drumming and The Shambara Boyz, a Somali refugee hip hop duo perform. We'll be taking it to the streets with folk dances from Kalinka (Russia), Ballet Folklorico Mexico Vivo, Krakiowiaki (Poland), Bailes de Mi Tierra (Mexico), and Baltimore break dancers! In CityLit Press' City Sages: Baltimore are of some of Baltimore's best writers including both famous and not-yet-famous scribes gathered by editor Jen Michalski. Writers include Edgar Allan Poe, Gertrude Stein, Zora Neal Hurston, Frederick Douglass, and F. Scott Fitzgerald; contemporary writers include Laura Lippman, Anne Tyler, Madison Smartt Bell, and Rafael Alvarez. Sage writer Jen Grow hosts an evening with Jen Michalksi, Geoff Becker, Michael Kimball, Joe Young and a line-up of readings, music and performances by Sage writers and special guests. Keble Drummond named his band after a line that could "send a message around the world." In Jamaica in 1962, Studio One artists The Cables built a sound to do just that.
