Community College of Baltimore County presents CHOIR BOY, 11/9-13

Community College of Baltimore County presents Choir Boy, a play by Oscar-winning playwright and actor Tarell Alvin McCraney, Nov. 9-13, 2017 performed in the Center for the Arts Theatre at CCBC Catonsville, 800 South Rolling Road.

McCraney's Choir Boy is set at the Charles R. Drew Prep School for Boys, which is dedicated to the creation of strong, ethical black men. Pharus wants nothing more than to take his rightful place as leader of the school's legendary gospel choir, as he questions whether he can find his own by singing in his own key inside the hallowed halls of the institution.

CCBC's production of Choir Boy is directed by CCBC Professor Precious Stone and performed by students from throughout Baltimore County, Baltimore City and the surrounding metropolitan area. Scenic and lighting design are provided by G. Maurice "Moe" Conn and costume design is by James J. Fasching, both CCBC staff members.

The play is centered on a gay youth seeking the courage and conviction to stop hiding the truth about himself. Choir Boy explores complex themes with intriguing dialogue and music, including church hymns and spirituals. Choir Boy premiered at the Royal Court in London and Off-Broadway to critical and popular acclaim.
