The City of College Park has been named Maryland's "Best Place to Raise your Kids in 2011" by Bloomberg Business Week.
Bloomberg and Businessweek.com cited the city of 26,167 for its historic sites and 10-mile proximity to Washington, D.C. Home to the University of Maryland, College Park has a median family income of $83,749. Residents get to choose from four elementary schools, three middle schools and four high schools. The city was developed in the late 1800s and has the College Park Airport, the oldest continuously operated airport in the world.
Researchers evaluated 5,418 places in the United States. In addition to schools, cost of living, and crime statistics, job growth, air quality, ethnic diversity, and access to the surrounding parks, zoos, theaters, and other recreational facilities were also factors in determining the best place to raise kids.
Only places where the median family income was within 20 percent of the state median were considered, which eliminated affluent and low-income areas.
