The Collective and The Regulators bring pop culture to the stage. The Collective presents POP ART on Friday, August 20, 2010 at the Creative Alliance in Baltimore. The concert begins at 8:00pm. POP ART infuses The Collective's modern dance roots with elements of hip hop, swing, capoeira, and salsa to create an upbeat mix of dances that reflect pop culture. POP ART also features local nine member poppin crew The Regulators, under the direction of Talbot Johnson who will bring their formidable street dancing skills to the stage. Tickets are $15/general admission; $12/students and seniors. Tickets are available at www.creativealliance.org, by calling 410.276.1651, or at the door.

About the work (selected selections):

Go, stop, Go. Repeat. (2010) . Choreographer Emily Tankersley creates a whirlwind of activity for 4 dancers and 8 chairs. Set to the music of Prodigy, the piece is a fresh look at a staple piece for The Collective based on an overly busy lifestyle.

Curiouser and Curiouser (2010) . The world of Alice in Wonderland is explored and portrayed through the wide eyes of choreographer Adrienne Latanishen. Ms. Latanishen creates a dizzy world of striped dancers and curious movements to the music of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Mobtown Cacophony (2010) . The sights and sounds of Charm City are interpreted through movement, spoken word, and a sound score of the dancers. Choreographer Lynne Price takes a quirky look at Baltimore, the city she calls home.

Maji (2010). It.s a green world full of clear blue water, and choreographer Camille Lattimore examines the apparent disregard for waste of clean water. Fela Kuti.s Roforofo Fight provides a fitting soundtrack.

Named Baltimore.s Best Dance Company by the CityPaper (2008/2009), The Collective houses professional dancers and choreographers from the Baltimore region who gather to produce original work. Kicking off their eleventh performance season, The Collective performs annually at the Baltimore Museum of Art, offers bi-weekly modern dance classes for the public, and is in residency at The Bryn Mawr School in Baltimore City. The sixteen member dance company is co-directed by Jessica Fultz and Sonia Synkowski.
