Cockpit in Court Summer Theatre continues its 45th season with Sister Act, a feel-good comedy based on the Touchstone Pictures motion picture starring Whoopi Goldberg. The musical comedy runs from July 21 through Aug. 6 in the F. Scott Black Theatre at the Robert and Eleanor Romadka College Center at CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Boulevard in Rosedale.

Ticket prices are $22 for adults, $20 for seniors (60+), and $14 for children (12 and under). Tickets are available from CCBC Box Office at 443-840-2787 (ARTS) and online at www.ccbcmd.edu/cockpit (in the upper right hand corner!)

The improbable plot of Sister Act centers on a 1960s aspiring lounge singer Deloris Van Cartier (Rikki Howie Lacewell), pictured at left, who witnesses a murder, and ends up hiding out from the gangsters in a convent! Deloris doesn't want to be there and the Mother Superior isn't happy about it either. Yet, the singer helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she rediscovers the strength of her own.

The play has music by Alan Menken with lyrics by Glenn Slater and book by Cheri Steinkellner and Bill Steinkellner with additional materials by Douglas Carter Beane. The 1992 Touchstone Pictures motion picture was written by Joseph Howard.

Tom Wyatt directs Cockpit's production that features Rikki Howie Lacewell in the starring role of Deloris Van Cartier. Amy Luchey (Michelle) and Lacy Comstock (Tina) appear as her backup singers. When Deloris walks in on her boyfriend/nightclub owner Curtis Jackson (Jake Stuart) and his crew, Joey (Jeff Burch), Pablo (DorIan Smith), TJ (Tyrell Stanley) and Ernie (Brian Kraszewski) and witnesses the murder of a suspected informant, her life is turned upside down.

When Deloris turns to the police for help, Officer Eddie Souther (Troy Haines Hopper) suggests she go into hiding in the only place where Jackson would never suspect her to be - a convent!

Mother Superior (Jane C. Boyle) and Monsignor O'Hara (Thom Sinn) reluctantly agree to the ploy. Sister Mary Patrick (Judy Ricci), Sister Mary Robert (Sherry Benedek), Sister Mary Lazarus (Lauren Lowell), Sister Mary Martin of Tours (Maribeth Vogel), Sister Mary Theresa (Anne Acerno) and other nuns - Nicole Arrison, Lacy Comstock, Ciara Franklin, Sarah Jones, Amy Luchey, Kelsey Luchey, Stephanie Shade and Lauren Stuart join in the deception.

Other supporting players are Kelsey Luchey as the waitress, Josh Schoff a cab driver and Greg Dohmeier as a newscaster. Cast as cops, hookers, bar patrons, altar boys and dancers are Greg Dohmeier, Lou Ghitman, Brian Kraszewski, Josh Schoff, Thom Sinn, Anne Acerno, Nicole Arrison, Lacy Comstock, Ciara Franklin, Sarah Jones, Amy Luchey, Kelsey Luchey, Stephanie Shade, and Lauren Stuart.

What happens next fills the stage with music and laughter and a good time for all! Get out of the heat and into a seat for the rest of the story.
