It's all about family dynamics in Christopher Durang's 2013 Tony Award-winning Best Play - Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike - in the Cabaret stage at CCBC Essex from July 22 through Aug. 6.
This dramatic comedy explores the interactions of a pair of middle-aged siblings Vanya (Patrick Martyn of Towson, Md.) and Sonia (Liz Boyer Hunnicutt of Nottingham, Md.), who are still sharing their childhood home in Buck's County, Pennsylvania and who spend their days complaining about the state of their lives. A sudden surprise visit of their slightly younger movie-star sister, Masha (Holly Pasciullo of Ellicott City, Md.), along with her new boy-toy Spike (Tim Neil of Baltimore City, Md.), allows old resentments to flare, eventually leading to threats to sell the family home.
Add to the mix, a sassy maid Cassandra (Laura Weeldreyer of Baltimore City, Md.) who can predict the future, and a lovely young aspiring actress named Nina (Anna Steuerman of Lutherville, Md.) whose prettiness somewhat worries the aging and imperious Masha and you have all the ingredients for laughter and tears.
Linda Chambers directs this ensemble comedy.
