Children's Playhouse of Maryland, in residence at CCBC Essex, will present Seussical, Jr. on the first three weekends in March. The performance is based on books by children's author Dr. Seuss and will be held at the CCBC Essex Administration Building Lecture Hall at 1 p.m. on March 3, 4, 10, 11, 17 and 18. The production features 38 student actors from Baltimore City, Baltimore County and Harford County.

Karah Campbell of Forest Hill appears as Cat in the Hat, with Jules Einhorn of Baltimore as Horton the Elephant. Also featured are Bella Comotto of Parkville as JoJo, Ana Lane of Baltimore as Gertrude McFuzz, and Abby Koncurat of Bel Air as Mayzie LaBird.

Liz Boyer Hunnicutt directs this production of Seussical, Jr., with musical direction by Charlotte Evans and choreography by Amanda Poxon. The original Broadway production of Seussical, which debuted in 2000, is a musical written by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty.

Seussical, Jr. brings to life the most beloved characters of Dr. Seuss. The Cat in the Hat narrates the tale of Horton the Elephant as he discovers the tiny Whos on a speck of dust, guards the nest and egg of Mayzie LaBird, is kidnapped in the Jungle of Nool, and through it all is befriended by Gertrude McFuzz, the bird with a one-feathered tail.

With wonderful songs including Biggest Blame Fool, Alone in the Universe, How Lucky You Are, Amazing Mayzie and Solla Sollew, together with fabulous dance numbers, Seussical, Jr. will have the whole family saying "Oh, the Thinks You Can Think."

There will be an additional show on March 10 and 17 at 4:30 p.m., and the 4:30 p.m. show on March 17 is a sensory-friendly performance. The 1 p.m. show on March 18 will be sign language interpreted by students from the CCBC Catonsville American Sign Language Certification program.

Show tickets are $10. Tickets may be purchased by calling the CCBC Box Office, 443-840-ARTS (2787), Tuesday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., or online at www.cpmarts.org. Group ticket prices are available through the box office. Advanced ticket purchase is highly recommended for this show. Tickets will be available at the door only as space permits.
