Garnering a Tony Award Nomination for Best Play when it premiered in 1987, Coastal Disturbances follows a motley ensemble of vacationers on a private Massachusetts beach -- guided by the charged summer romance between a lifeguard and a young photographer. Described as a slice of Chekhov with a healthy dash of Ionesco's absurdism, Howe's beloved tone shines in this sensuous comedy.
This production is directed by Jay Gilman, who has recently collaborated on projects with the Center Stage Young Playwrights Festival, Baltimore Playwrights Festival, Single Carrot Theatre, Baltimore Theatre Project, Glass Mind Theatre and more. He is the Young Actors Academy Director at Spotlighters Theatre and a graduate of Goucher College.
The cast includes Michael Alban (Leo Hart), Destiny Brown (Miranda Bigelow), Jonathan Claiborne (Dr Hamilton Adams), Brian Douglas (Andre Sor), Maddie Hicks (Holly Dancer), Kate McKenna (Faith Bigelow), Elaina Telitsina (Ariel Took), and Jill Vanderweit (M.J. Adams).
