Williams’ Pulitzer Prize-winning drama takes place over one stormy, emotional evening in the southern plantation house of “Big Daddy” Pollitt, as his family gathers for a bittersweet birthday party. “Big Daddy” (James Hunnicutt of Nottingham) has just been informed his chronic pain is nothing serious, but most of the rest of the family know the truth – he is dying of cancer. While second son Gooper (Will Meister of Parkville) and his wife Mae (Emily Wesselhoff of Rosedale) plot to take control of Big Daddy’s fortune, favored son Brick (Timothy Davis of Towson) prefers to pursue an alcoholic haze that will soothe his dissatisfaction with his life, his career, and his sultry wife Maggie “the Cat” (Samantha Trionfo of Parkville). As both Big Mama (Liz Boyer-Hunnicutt of Nottingham) and Big Daddy come to learn the truth of Big Daddy’s health, the web of lies that has been spun around this family will be torn apart – revealing the hard truths at the core of this family drama.
Other roles include: Reverend Tooker (Jamaal McCray of Baltimore), Doctor Baugh (TIM JOhnson of Baltimore), and Sookey (Sharda Sykes of Essex), and Mae and Gooper’s children – Dixie (Emily Ricci of Nottingham), Sonny (Braden Lott of Bel Air) and Polly (Gwendolyn Lowell of Baltimore).
James Hunnicutt as Big Daddy and Liz Boyer Hunnicutt as Big Mama are guest artists for this production. CCBC Theatre Professor Tom Colonna directs. Set and lighting design are by Terri Raulie and costumes by James J. Fasching.
