Broadway Across America in partnership with the Hippodrome Theatre at the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center has announced the appointment of Chris Mahan as Vice President of Venue Operations of the Hippodrome. Mahan, an 18-year commercial theatre veteran, joins the Hippodrome from Broadway In Boston, Boston's largest presenter and producer of Broadway.
As General Manager of Broadway In Boston, Mahan specialized in venue operations management, financial budgeting and forecasting, and capital project management. In his new role as Vice President of Venue Operations, he will oversee day to day facilities functions, facilitate all service contracts and continue to spearhead budgeting and forecasting as well as manage capital expenditures.
"We are thrilled that Broadway Across America promoted from within the organization to bring this experienced arts professional to Baltimore; Chris is an ideal addition to the Hippodrome and the Baltimore community," said Ron Legler, President of the Hippodrome Theatre at the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center. "He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge from his years of venue management of the Emerson Colonial Theatre, the Wilbur Theatre, and The Charles Playhouse, and we are confident his dedication to arts volunteerism will benefit the local arts community and the M&T Bank Pavilion renovation project."
A graduate of Emerson College with a BFA in Theatre Production and Management, Mahan previously served as the General Manager of Boston's famed Emerson Colonial Theatre, the country's oldest continuously-operating Broadway theatre, and the Charles Playhouse, home to long-running hits Blue Man Group and Shear Madness, the longest running non-musical play in American history. While overseeing all internal and production operations for Broadway In Boston, he also served as the liaison to the theatre management team for the Boston Opera House.
A native of Worcester, Ma., Mahan says, "I am grateful to be a part of such a vibrant industry and am looking forward to joining Baltimore's diverse and robust theater community."
