The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) will host two community activities at Artscape, America's largest free arts festival held in Baltimore annually. The BSO Academy Festival at Artscape will provide adult amateur musicians the opportunity to perform with the BSO today, July 20 at 2:30 p.m. and Sunday, July 21 at 3 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. The concerts presented by the Academy participants are free and open to the public. Please see below for complete event and registration details.
On Saturday, July 20, the BSO Academy Artscape Orchestras provide participants the opportunity to rehearse and perform side-by-side with the BSO in two different orchestras under conductor Cristian Macelaru. Based on the acclaimed Rusty Musicians with the BSO program, Academy Festival participants will receive a full one-hour rehearsal with BSO members as well as a unique performance for a full audience of family, friends and Artscape attendees. Academy participants also have the chance to sit onstage while BSO musicians perform a selection on each half of the performance.
Participants also have the option to take part in the BSO Academy Chamber Music Weekend at Artscape on Sunday, July 21, where groups of four or more members can play chamber music side-by-side with a member of the BSO. Groups rehearse twice throughout the weekend and will perform an entire chamber music work for a public audience on July 21 at 3 p.m. at the Meyerhoff.
