The Baltimore Playwrights Festival today announced that award-winning local playwright Mark Scharf will receive a staged reading of his play The Whispers of Saintsby The Oberon Theater Ensemble at The Lambs, America's First Professional Theater Club, 3 West 51st Street, New York, New York on Sunday, March 25th at 7:00 pm.

The Whispers of Saints, which won both Best Play and Best Production in the 2002 Baltimore Playwrights Festival, shows us a glimpse into the lives of Catherine, a "defrocked" psychiatrist, her much younger lover and former patient, and her newly divorced daughter who comes for a visit.  It examines the destructiveness of intolerance, its beginnings in the family, and the fact that, contrary to popular opinion, sometimes it is the younger generation that is inflexible and judgmental.

Mark Scharf has lived and worked in Maryland, Washington, DC, and Northern Virginia since 1984, with his first job being Publicity Director at DC's The Source Theatre. He holds an MFA in Playwriting from the University of Virginia, is a member of the Dramatists Guild and has been involved with the Baltimore Playwrights Festival since 1994.  Mr. Scharf says, " I have been blessed . . . to have have enjoyed all the support the BPF has given me over the years.  I would not have been blessed with the opportunities I've had for productions and readings and publication or learned what I have learned about our tough craft without the belief and encouragement of the BPF."  He, himself, has served as the Chairman of the BPF for three terms, 2003-2006, and continues to be an active member of the organization.
