Now that the grill is out, the fireworks are over and the weather is steamy, it's time to get out that new play script you were planning to submit to the Baltimore Playwrights Festival. The new submission deadline this year is July 31, 2013.

Any playwright currently residing or working in Maryland or the District of Columbia, or who has previously lived or worked within Maryland or D.C., is eligible to submit. Plays must not have received a staged production at any time prior to or at the time of submission. Only electronic submissions of plays via the BPF website will be accepted. There is a $10 submission fee for each script submitted, and each playwright may only submit one script for consideration. Complete submission guidelines, including script format requirements, are provided at www.baltplayfest.org.

Those scripts chosen for production during the summer of 2014 will be judged by a panel of independent judges during production. The playwright of the First Place Script receives the coveted Carol Weinberg Award, and the winners of the First, Second and Third Place Scripts will receive cash prizes. Results will be announced and prizes awarded at an annual Awards Celebration during the fall of 2014.

During the last thirty-two years, The Baltimore Playwrights Festival has presented over 282 productions by 173 playwrights at 27 different theaters. The BPF nurtures the talents of Maryland and DC playwrights through public readings, discussions, critiques and workshopping of new plays. Participating local theaters offer productions of several of the submitted scripts during their summer season. Further information can be found on the BPF website, www.baltplayfest.org.
