ART MD 2010 Exhibit Opens At Howard County Center 10/29

Art MD 2010 opens October 29 at the Howard County Center for the Arts in EllicottCity.

This exhibit is an exciting survey of 41 Maryland artists whom reside in regions within a 100-mileradius of the Center's location in Ellicott City.Juror Dr. Jack Rasmussen, Director and Curator of the American University Museum at the Katzen ArtsCenter in DC, selected works from over 380 submitted works.

Dr. Rasmussen selected a broad surveyof mediums, including sculpture, traditional and abstract painting, pastel, installation, drawing andphotography, with a great variety of styles and approaches.

The artists in the exhibit include: JamesAdkins, Michael Bare, Al Bishop, Aline Feldman, Sarah Laing, Rachel Rotenberg, Joan Tarbell Plato,Chloe Watson and JL Stewart Watson.ART MD 2010 is the nineteenth multi-media statewide juried exhibit sponsored by the Howard CountyArts Council. The exhibit began in 1984 as Maryland's Best, which was an annual show through 1989 open to all Maryland artists.

In 1990, when the show became a biennial, its name was changed to ARTMD. Since the Baltimore Museum of Art ended its Maryland biennial exhibits in the early 1990s, ARTMD has been a premier juried showcase for artists in the region. In 2000, ART MD expanded to includeDelaware and Southeastern Pennsylvania in addition to Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C.An exhibit reception will be held at the Center the evening of November 5 from 6-8PM. At 6:30PM, Dr.Rasmussen will make brief remarks and announce his juror's awards.

A minimum of $1,000 will beawarded.

Art MD 2010 will be on display through December 10, 2010.
